Flapventure Devlog #1: My First Game!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to the first devlog for Flapventure! This is my very first game, and I'm super excited to share the progress I've made so far. I've been working on this project for a little while now, and I've got the basics up and running. Let me show you what I've done so far!

Current Features

Simple UI

I've put together a basic menu with three buttons: Play, Character Selection and Settings. Right now, only the Play button works. The other two buttons are just placeholders for now, but I plan to add functionality to them in one of a future updates.

Basic Gameplay Mechanics

The core of the game is ready:

  • Flapping: Press the Space button to make your bird flap its wings  and keep it in the air. Simple, but challenging and fun!
  • Score System: Each time you successfully pass between the pipes, your score goes up and there is simple UI that keeps track of the score.
  • Highscore: The game keeps track of your best score, so you can always try to beat it.

Game Over and Restart

When your bird hits a pipe of falls, it is game over. But don't worry, you can quickly restart the game with  a click on a Restart button.

What's Next?

Here's what I'm planning to work on next:

  • UI Update of the Main Menu: I'll be giving the main menu a fresh look to make it more visually appealing and user-friendly.
  • Character Selection: I'm planning to add a few different birds so players can select their favourite one to play with.
  • Multilingual Support: The game will be translated into a few different languages, making it accessible to a wider audience
  • Difficulty Options: I'll be implementing a difficulty curve to gradually increase the challenge as you play, along with an option to adjust the difficulty level to suit different player preferences.
